What Big Idea Canvas looks like
The tool as it appears inside the ToolSuite, shown here on an example company.
Big Idea Canvas: ShelfSense
AI-generated as a starting point. Inspired by The Big Idea Canvas.
For independent grocers running one to five stores, who reset shelves on instinct and lose categories for a quarter when they get it wrong, the ShelfSense that models a shelf reset against your own sales history before you move a single case. Unlike enterprise planogram suites, our solution is priced for a single store and reads the data you already have.
Example content, shown on an invented company. Your own analysis uses your idea.
Three things it does
- 01
A guided hypothesis
Your idea written as one colour-coded sentence: customer, pain, product, benefit, alternative, differentiation.
- 02
Pain scored, not asserted
How big the pain is, how often it is felt, and how well you understand it.
- 03
The exit question, early
Asked now, while the answer still changes what you build.
What it lets you do
- Say what your company does in one sentence without trailing off
- Find the section you cannot answer — which is the gap you have been carrying
- Hand a co-founder or investor one page instead of a conversation
If the business does not fit on one page, the pitch will not fit in a meeting. The canvas is where the vague parts of the idea become visible, because a prompt you cannot answer is a gap you have been carrying.

Common questions
What is the Big Idea Canvas?
A one-page frame covering who you are, what you are building, who you are selling to, the customer pain, the market potential, your solution, your market positioning and your path to exit. It is guided question by question rather than handed over as an empty template.
How is it different from the Business Model Canvas?
The Big Idea Canvas asks whether this is the right thing to build and whether you are the right person to build it. The Business Model Canvas, later in the sequence, asks how the business actually runs — revenue, costs, channels, partners. The first is about the opportunity; the second is about the machine.
Why does it ask about an exit this early?
Because the answer changes what you build. A company aimed at acquisition by a specific kind of buyer makes different decisions from one meant to compound for a decade, and founders usually discover which one they are building far too late for that decision to be free.
